Every Summer we take on a challenge in order to live out a core value of ours “Constant growth”. This summer, on the 31st of July, we will take on the #Run4Koma Challenge!
WellWater is working to alleviate the poverty in Koma Hills, Nigeria! Last year we walked to build a school. This year we are running against poverty!
In the school walk challenge, we walked a combined total of over 3000km in one day so that Mishak and his friends wouldn’t have to! We wanted to build them a school in the heart of their community. AND WE DID IT! we raised the funds necessary for the school! This was so exciting! But education is only one of the areas that help to alleviate poverty in a community. Mishak and his friends still need our help!
In order to enable a community to be self-sustainable it must be equipped with:
Clean water
Education
Improved agricultural practices
Safe hygiene practices
A boost in economic trade
Energy
We are looking at the six thematic areas of poverty and we want to boost 5 of these 6 areas in Koma Hills so that the community can not just survive but flourish!
Let's do this together family! Let’s run against poverty!
If you want to make a difference in the life of Mishak, his friends and his community in Koma! LETS RUN4KOMA!
you can run either:
10Km,

This is what we are RUNNING FOR THIS SUMMER:
The School. Last year we raised the money to build a sustainable school in the heart of the community! We were unable to go due to the pandemic but this November our team is going to go and begin the building process! This will multiply the number of children able to access good education in KOMA.
Composting Toilets. Some 1.5 million children die each year from diarrhoea-related diseases, often connected to poor sanitation. Many development experts believe most of these deaths could be prevented with proper sanitation and improved hygiene. We will build 6 composting toilets in Koma.
Agriculture Initiative (Composting area). We want to enable the community to make the most of ALL resources available. Yes, that’s right - even human waste. The agriculture initiative will involve installing facilities for composting, helping to increase the fertility and productivity of the land. Therefore, boosting the economy!
Solar panels. We want to provide clean energy for the school, so they can make the most of the new building. A solar panel system will provide electricity for the school building. We will install 6 solar panels improving the energy of KOMA.
Water Wells. There are still more than 9,000 inhabitants in Koma who are in need of clean water. We need to create more water wells to prevent people from developing more illnesses and infections caused by drinking water from the river.
The Wells needed in Koma, Hills are for the following villages:
1- Komni (3000 inhabitants)
2- Konglo (1000 inhabitants)
3- Betti (1000 inhabitants)
4- Warri Jabbe (700 inhabitants)
5- Warri Jada (700 inhabitants)
6- Manni (600 inhabitants)
7- Ba’umshe (500 inhabitants)
8- Deggi (450 inhabitants)
9- Ba’usman (400 inhabitants)
10- Jumaare (300 inhabitants)
11- Sabolayi (200 inhabitants)
